As Craig, Tami, Alan and Raph mentioned, we’ve got some wildfires down here today. There are about 100k acres already gone so far, and everyone’s been asked to stay off the roads and cell phones. A pretty huge swath of neighborhoods have already been evacuated.
At work, SOE games will only be having limited services available until this clears up. To Smed’s credit, he’s never been the kind of guy to fuck around when it comes to the occasional local emergency, always trying to get the word out as early as possible that people should stay home and take care of their families.
As for me, everything’s perfectly all right down this direction. To those who’ve checked in already, thanks for asking.
Some smoke and ash, and a whole lot of wind, but the fires are still far enough north to where there’s no immediate problem.
Have a few friends and pets over, and we’re making the best of it while being glued to the TV.
Any other friends who got booted from their place and need somewhere to hang out a while, you know how to find me.
Be safe, all.

I checked out Rancho Parkway (by the North County Mall) earlier.. snapped a few pics on my Flickr.. rather bad ones since all I had was my cell phone.. but last night it looked insane.. big wall of flame… today, it was little pockets of big flame.. unfortunately some of those involved houses…

Glad your neck of the woods is ok! Here in Vista is fine right now, though that could change.. let’s just hope it doesn’t!
Cheers,
Nick

Thanks. Hope you’re still doing all right too.
Looks like it might be getting closer here, though. New area just got evacced. Roped it off in a google map: http://tinyurl.com/2f9zy4

That’s some good news - The above’s wrong. FD just cleared up that it’s not actually an evac area. So, we’re still waiting to see if the thing jumps south over the 56.

So far so good it seems… just a lot of smoke and ash.. yet somehow, “Ring of Fire” won’t leave my head…
If anything it’s actually brightening up a bit outside my window.. bright *gray* but still brighter =)
I don’t want to jump the gun or anything, but I think you’re in the clear too. I’m not seeing winds anywhere near what they were Sunday night, which can only help.
In other news, Del Mar and Solana Beach are directly in the sights of the scary fire beastie.. I can’t even imagine the smell of flaming horse poo… and the poor people who evac’d their animals to Del Mar now have to relocate them yet again.
/sigh
I hope this ends soon.
