Growing Out of an MMO World...

Moorgard points out in this post an analogy between growing up and away from Sesame Street to getting bored with and growing away from .
All in all, a masterful revelation if you’ve never considered it before, but herein lies the rub…

The sad part is, once we leave Sesame street there are tens of thousands of other shows that are different and offer rewarding content for us as we age. The same cannot be said of MMO's.

Personally, I think we have already seen the golden age come and pass for MMO's in this format. While subs may continue to go up for Wow, it reflects the opening of new markets like China etc, while I believe the NA market will stagnate and eventually drop off, across all games.

The level up treadmill time sink risk vs reward model is going on 10 years old now, and is showing it's age.

Time for something completely different.
